loss

Nothing matters,
in a moment, life is gone, cut short,
forever, irreversible,
where to? who really knows?
the pain and the unreality go hand in hand,
disbelief, and yet knowing...

nothing matters, not really, apart from people and love and caring,
small treasured moments
the transparency of honest communication,
those who see straight past our veneers and into our souls, who see us as we are,
those who care, who we love dearly, without condition, without reason perhaps.

what we say and how we say it,
how we make someone feel, by our touch, our presence, our omissions,
All THAT matters, matters a lot,

we remember, not always the words, but how someone made us feel...
kind words, smiles, caring, valued, love lived every day in small ways...

lessons we learn over and over again and still we need reminding

Life isn't fair, life is hard, things happen we can't explain, can't reason
some people radiate love...
they are special,
it's not fair they should die, that they should no longer be around,

hard to accept, impossible to explain
hard to deal with, impossible to avoid

so final, so forever...

no words or quoted passages can reverse that moment, fast rewind...

tomorrow we say goodbye to a young soul who leaves behind a young family and many who thought highly of him...
It's hard, and life isn't fair...

explanations and reasons still don't change that,

tomorrow we face one of our deepest fears, it faces us, cold and stark,
we imagine and we go there, we feel and we are thankful too that we still remain,

and whilst we live, we live in possibility...and love

People are special. And can be gone in a moment. I lost my nephew last month in a road accident. He leaves 2 little girls. As do so many young men who die. Memories are not enough at times, we need the hugs, the phone calls, the knowledge they are there.

Life isn't fair. But it is all we have.

Love and hugs to you, RD

It's why it truly is so important to inhale every moment...

Sorry to hear that gilly, so tragic, life is precious and people are so special.

Thank you for your comment,
thank you both, I will take them with me as I head off to the funeral now, they are much appreciated, x

This was a beautifully penned reminder that we must seize this gift we've been given and make the most out of it. Every day, I see people who fail to appreciate the wonder of life. They exist, and do not live. It saddens me immensely, for I also know people who would do anything for more time.

I'm just going to suck as much joie de vivre out of whatever time I've been given. I'll start by waking up tomorrow morning and thanking the heavens that I've been given another day. Then I'll go donate blood (plasma, actually) so that someone, somewhere can have the same opportunity.

Hey Katie...was thinking of you and your family at the funeral today. Such a tragic loss. Trying to help kids understand it all too is such a delicate balance, but a lesson we all have to push through to find something to hold onto.

Hi Carmi, thank you so much for visiting and commenting, you know the thing about this guy was how much he sucked out of ever second... touched so many people and was so much fun.
Good on you for donating plasma, it's something I used to do but couldn't here, it is such a valuable thing to do, to give... have a wonderful weekend, x

Dana, thank you for thinking, It was extra hard for Rich, not only as the first funeral he has ever been to, but as the family had asked for his boys - the ones he coached in football, to be the guard of honour while the coffin was brought into church...so they were all in full football strip with black armbands ~ a wonderful tribute but tough.
He was a year younger than Rob and such similar photos of him and his son with footballs and trophies as we have here.
It certainly puts some things into perspective and brings us back to basics...
Thank you :)
